Call for Papers

Artificial Intelligence Advances in Education is an international, peer-reviewed quarterly journal, providing a platform for high-quality research and critical scholarship in artificial intelligence and education.

We welcome submissions in two distinct sections of the journal:

General Submissions Section
The journal welcomes a wide range of submission types that align with its aims and scope. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and are not bound to any particular theme or issue.
We invite contributions across the following categories:

  • Original Research – Full-length studies presenting new empirical findings.
  • Review Article – Comprehensive overviews of the literature on a specific topic.
  • Systematic Reviews – Rigorous, methodologically structured reviews with clear research questions and frameworks.
  • Methods and Protocols – Detailed descriptions of innovative methodologies, protocols, or technical approaches.
  • Troubleshooting – Articles addressing common challenges and solutions in AI applications for education.
  • Short Format/Single Results – Brief reports of significant single findings or preliminary results.
  • Data Reports – Descriptions of research datasets with guidance for reuse and interpretation.
  • Perspective/Opinion – Viewpoints on current advances, future directions, or policy implications.
  • Conceptual Analysis – Exploration of key concepts, models, or theoretical frameworks in the field.

Monographs (Special Issues)
These are thematically focused issues coordinated by Guest Editors who are experts in the respective areas. Each special issue is based on a specific Call for Papers, and contributions are curated around emerging topics, interdisciplinary questions, or innovative developments in the field. Authors interested in contributing to special issues should check for current calls or announcements and submit their contributions within the timeframe of the call for papers.

Submission Guidelines
Authors may submit manuscripts for consideration at any time. Upon receipt, the Editorial Board will review the relevance and quality of the manuscript. If found suitable, the submission will be assigned to the appropriate section—either the monograph/special issue or the general submissions section.

Please consult our Submission Guidelines and Aims and Scope before submitting.

Special Issues

Artificial Intelligence Advances in Education invites scholars and conference organisers to propose Special Issues and Conference Special Issues for upcoming volumes. We are especially interested in timely, innovative, and interdisciplinary themes that push the boundaries of current research and attract high-quality submissions from around the world.

Types of Special Issues
We welcome proposals for:

  • Thematic Special Issues
Curated collections of original research centred on a clearly defined topic of scholarly importance.
  • Conference Special Issues
Dedicated issues featuring selected and extended papers from academic conferences, symposia, and workshops. Submissions must be substantially developed beyond the original conference paper and will undergo the journal’s full independent peer review process.

Each proposal must be led by a team of at least three Guest Editors from different countries, all holding a PhD, with strong publication records and complementary expertise. Proposals should include a tentative title, a 300–500-word rationale, short bios of the editors, and a proposed timeline. We encourage diversity in gender, geography, and career stage. Guest Editors may collectively contribute one article to the issue, which will undergo independent peer review.

For Conference Special Issues, proposals should also include brief details of the associated conference or event.

Please see the Call for Guest Editors for detailed instructions.

See our open and past Special Issues below and submit your article to the relevant issue.
